Lady Macbeth lacks the humanity her husband possesses and tries to rid him of what goodness he has left. Her want to be queen drives her to asking the spirits to “unsex me here” and “tend on mortal thoughts” to take away her feminine qualities of care and kindness. When Macbeth arrives home, she immediately pounces on him about doing the deed and knocking out his obstacle on his way to being king. At first, he is doubtful and tries to stand up to his wife, thinking he can make the final decision. But, he cannot. She attacks him by hitting the one thing that hurts a man he most- his manhood and her desire for him. In one moment, she is able to convince him to commit the ultimate act of treason just to up her station and give her the power she desires. Her deepest desires clearly cloud her thought and drive her to the dark side as she drags her husband by the heels with her right down to hell. She controls him with her love, saying she only loved him when he was a man and actually took charge. This sends him over the edge and she gets what she wants by manipulating him. Her lack of humanity makes it easier for her to hurt her husband this way and force him to lose his gentleness and kindness. She wants him to be like her so she doesn't feel as bad about herself for possessing the qualities of a witch. If he is like her and does the bad deed, she will no longer feel guilt for becoming this way and letting her passion for control ruin how she used to be. This helps to justify her cruel actions and move forward, so she now embodies the words, “what's done is done.”
