I have been a vegetarian for almost a year now. Taking an animal’s life and a gentle soul for merely the sake of an appetite does not make sense to me. No animal needs to die for me to live and that makes me feel good. Genius Albert Einstein states, “nothing can benefit life and increase the chances of survival of life on Earth as the evolution of a vegetarian diet.” I think it is a great attribute to love all creatures and eat various foods other than meat and fish.
Animals are living beings; they are not products to be sold at grocery stores. I never really enjoyed meat, the thought of eating a once living, moving, and breathing creature nauseates me. However, many people love the taste of meat, but everyone needs to be strong, have willpower and a good conscience. It is okay to make a sacrifice and not consume something you desire so an animal can live. Paul Mccartney believes “if slaughterhouses had glass walls, we would all be vegetarians.” People are unaware of the extreme suffering animals endure. Chains tie pigs’ legs to wooden bars and roast them while their limbs are being chopped off. Although slaughtering animals can be less cruel, it will never be humane. These animals will never raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural and important to them. Most will not even feel the warmth of the sun or breathe fresh air until the day they are loaded onto trucks headed for slaughterhouses. Although cage free systems offer animals more freedom to walk around, the spaces are still extremely confined.
Thousands of animals are killed everyday without a reason. For every steak: a single meal, a cow is killed. It is certainly unethical and immoral to eat meat. There is nothing about voluntary death that is humane. Animals are being slaughtered and neglected just to meet the desires of humans. There are so many preservatives and chemicals going into your body. Why do people need to kill lives to enjoy their own? Animals are living and breathing; it is irrational to take a life for a meal.
