Every year, Great Neck North High School hosts the annual Coffee House. Coffee House gives students a chance to perform in front of a wide range of audience members consisting of mostly students, faculty, and parents from Great Neck North. Taking place in the commons and emulating the Tri-M dinner with the exception of free admission, Coffee House is relaxed and fun. There is no pressure upon the performers of messing up. Instead, there is an intoxicated and nonchalance feeling in the air. Everyone can take their time to simply enjoy themselves and forget about tests, homework, college rejections, and other worries in life.
Many of the performers performed musical instruments or sang at the Coffee House. Although no one performed any major concertos with major cadenzas, the slower pieces performed still required effort to connect with the audience. In general, the music performed was mostly slow versus some of the fast-paced electronic music that is popular in this day in age. While there was no specific theme in the air, there was no circuitous feeling either.
During every performance, you could have caught glimpses of the performers smiling and savoring the moment. The music performed was mostly ukulele and guitar. The audience members were very involved in the performances and gave tremendous cheers to each of the performers after they finished performing. Outside the commons, the resounding noise rebounded throughout the hallways of the lower level and even in parts of the first floor as well. Meanwhile, brownies, donuts, brownies, cookies and other tasty treats were served to the audience members as they enjoyed the performances put on by the talented students of North High School.
Lastly, the students, faculty, and everyone else enjoyed the night very much. The performers enjoyed performing and creating music to share with the entire audience. In conclusion, the coffee house is a must-see event at North High School. If you did not attend this year, it is recommended by students and staff to attend next year if possible. Overall, the experience is exciting, witty, and especially lively.
