As the conclusion of third quarter approaches, a plethora of assessments and projects start to pile up on stressed students. Although students continue to face hefty workloads from homework and tests, they are counting down days to the start of Spring Break. Some students view Spring Break as a time to study for upcoming AP’s and other crucial tests. “I’m spending this year’s spring break by going back to China and eat, and study for regents and study for SAT,” said freshman Jenny Dong, “but I should probably put some time for entertainment but it should be a limited amount of time.” Students who are particularly focused on the need to study during Spring break do not usually go on long relaxing vacations.
On the other hand, other students believe Spring Break is a time to rest and relax at home with friends and family. “I think students should be able to spend their break having fun times with friends and family, doing stuff being happy,” said sophomore Nicole Victory, adding that “they should also study if they are in AP’s cause AP month is coming up.” Regardless of whether students plan on traveling overseas for vacation, time should be divided between fun and diligent studying.
There are other distinct options to relax during Spring Break. For example, students have the opportunity to relax at home and watch Netflix or go to Bow Tie Cinemas to watch a movie. They may also enjoy walking around town with friends or buying a delicious scoop of ice cream, a savory slice of pizza, or a refreshing drink. Additionally, Spring Break is the perfect opportunity to travel and explore the wonders of the New York City. People come from all over the world to experience the thrilling experience of New York City.
Great Neck North should encourage a balance between studying and enjoying a much-needed break from schoolwork. “I'm going to watch Shark Tank every day, rewatch all of Schorn’s videos, and study for the physics SATII,” said freshman Annette Hopkins. This shows that some students already acknowledge the balance between the need to study and take reasonable breaks. However, students should know to spend their spring break wisely, as many are invited to massive house parties. Spring Break is generally spent depending on the individual’s different perspective on the importance of grades and schoolwork. Therefore, with many options to choose from, students should decide for themselves how Spring break should be spent.
