After the eight year progressive movement of America with President Barack Obama, many new policies have been created to counter the racism and to reform these racist policies made by extreme right wing representatives and politicians. These reforms included greater donations to people with social welfare, destroying the wage gap, and other needed movements. Though it is amazing that many needed progressive reforms were passed, some of the reforms were not the best course of action. One of them was affirmative action, the worst reform to come to education since the early 1960’s.
Affirmative action was a reform passed in March of 1961 to force schools and colleges to become more multicultural by accepting more minorities into their universities or schools. Though this reform was needed at the time, since the United States was in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement, the act has worn out its need. America is no longer in a time where African Americans are thrown out of buildings for their skin color being black, or lynched in public. Nowadays, affirmative action is the opposite of what the public think: the act is doing anything but helping America become a safer place for everyone of any skin color.
Instead of helping everyone into school, affirmative action forces well qualified people out of school and declines their admission into their choices of universities. Since the act was made to help minorities enter schools easier than the white majority, non-racist white Americans are being denied the right to enter a college they are more than qualified for and turns them away. If an African man and a white man had the same GPA, extracurricular activities, SAT/ACT scores, and transcript, the white man would be turned away without batting an eye. That does not seem like the fairest system to ever have been placed.
Liberals have stood by this reform, constantly stating that it is making America a more free and social place for people of all races. The reason that this argument does not work is that the act is inadvertently creating racism towards white Americans. Racism is defined by treating a race as lower or inferior to another race. Though African Americans were treated in an extremely harsh manner in the 1860s, in our modern world, they have gained comparatively many more rights and are treated as equals. As unfair as it was for African Americans to not receive civil rights until the 1960’s, it is still unjust to turn white people away just for being white. Two wrongs do not make a right, and it is unbelievable how far left liberals have missed this crucial part about this reform for years.
Affirmative action was created to counter the racial hate crimes involving education within American schools, but it has clearly turned into the opposite of what it promised. To call this act justified or the best thing to happen to American education is one of the biggest false statements created by any one person. Watching as an entire race of people are denied education even if they have a similar, exact, or better education, is an atrocity. America, it is time to make another reform, and this time it is stopping something that is outdated and not needed anymore.
