Zachary Lee is known for his musical talent and his contributions to the musical community. He was the lead role in multiple school performances, a musician in the school choir, band and orchestra, and a co-president of Tri-M Music Society.
This year, Zach Lee was accepted into All National in Texas as a bass - the largest and lowest section of the chorus- in the mixed chorus. The guest conductor for the All National Mixed Choir was Dr. Antone Armstrong who has taught and inspired the singers. Zach said Armstrong taught the choir what it meant to be together and that singing in a choir is “not just you, but you’re together with everyone” and there is “no spotlight". In addition, Armstrong said, “Once you make notes, you don’t have to make the same mistakes. You guys are all stupid.” There was one quote that Armstrong’s mother told him, “Ignorance is lack of knowledge. Stupidity is having knowledge without using it. Now don’t be stupid. Whomp. My insurance doesn’t cover for whomp. We learned that musicians and athletes usually suffer from the same injuries, so when someone says that musicians aren't athletic, here's your answer.”
“One experience was that we got to see and learn from professional Barbershop Quartets and a barbershop choir. It was pretty cool,” said Zach.” The barbershop quartet did a lot of stand up comedy which was pretty cool. Most of the time we were stuck in a room though, we weren't even allowed to go back to our hotel rooms during the day." The most important part to take away from All National is that "the job of a musician is to unite people together and connect each other." Although All National is hard to get into because it requires a lot of dedication to even apply, Zach has learned a lot from his experience to add upon his music career.
