Racist, sexist, homophobic, and narcissistic are just some of the many inappropriate names President Donald J. Trump has been slaughtered with throughout his campaign. Trump, republican president elect, is a nationalist and capitalist. He believes in fixing the economy and putting America on the right track when it comes to business and trade.
A racist, by Google definition, is “a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.” Trump does not believe one race is superior to another, meaning he is not a racist. Democrats will argue that Trump is a racist because he talks about banning Muslims from coming into the United States, and says that illegal Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists. The only issue with this statement is that Muslims are not a race and neither is Mexico. Though Trump’s statements still may seem racist to many, they are at most just crude.
Additionally, a student in the Great Neck North High School, supporting the Republican side, shared his opinion on one of his numerous reasons for being a supporter of Trump. Senior Spencer Hakimian says, “When the United States government negotiates trade deals such as NAFTA and TPP that they very clearly know will likely kill hundreds of thousands of American manufacturing jobs as American companies flea for cheap labor in Mexico and China, Donald J. Trump could not and would not look away, and neither did the American people.”
Immigrants who illegally enter our country affect our economy greatly. It is not that Republicans are greedy and do not want to share their money, it is simply the principle of it. These illegal immigrants come into our country and are generally part of the lower class, making them prime candidates for the “ObamaCare” health insurance plan as well as other sorts of benefits. While these benefits may seem to be helping people, they are hurting others. The government is able to provide for the lower class due to the help from the pockets of the upper class Americans, which is not morally right. Democrats are generally in favor of “reasonable” tax increases, while republicans, such as Donald J. Trump, are head-over-heels for low taxes. An anonymous Republican student from the Great Neck North High School, who is in favor of lower taxes, comments that, “Trump is going to b someone who’s going to make America Great Again; the next Ronald Reagan,”.
Another note to make is that it was not just men who supported and voted for Trump, but women too. This goes hand-in-hand to show that this election was not about gender stereotype. Some women saw Trump as a better fit for a candidate, not because he is a man and only men can run the country. They could have easily voted Democrat Hillary Clinton to be president. A female junior anonymously said, “I am a woman and I support Trump. No, that does not make me a deplorable anti-feminist. What it does make me is a capitalist, it makes me a woman who feels empowered. Trump Pence ’16.”
As an anonymous sophomore said, “His policies lead me to believe that he can Make America Great Again!”. We hope so.
