In a few years from now, a young cheerleader will use Taylor Kaplan as her motivation to strive for greatness. Many see Kaplan as an inspiration to all high-school cheerleaders who walk the halls of Great Neck North. With the indispensable support and help from her co-captain, the equally hardworking and intelligent Isabelle Benilevi, Kaplan’s greatest triumph was making the GNN Cheer Squad an official sport. Throughout this pursuit, Taylor Kaplan let her team know that they can “pursue anything as long as they have the passion and determination.” These same words of wisdom that Taylor gave to her peers were the strength and ethic principles she used “through a long struggle.” Taylor hoped by doing this she would “set an example to all of our teammates to work hard to achieve their goals.”
In addition to being persistent, Taylor has also proved herself to be an outstanding leader in the realm of sports. Co-captain Isabelle Banilevi remarked that Taylor is “one of the most capable people I know. She’s a true leader and an excellent captain.” It is Kaplan’s overwhelming will that “really set an amazing foundation for what this team has become.” However, despite all this, Isabelle remarked that “the team has become a family, and just like any family, Taylor relies on us to boost her up, and catch her when she falls.”
Reflecting on her achievements on the cheerleading team, Taylor said that cheerleading has taught her “how to communicate with others” and to be a “good role model for the underclassmen on the squad.” As time has shown her, the senior understood how, sometimes, “being a leader is about making sacrifices and picking your battles.” Evidently, Taylor has appeared to have gained many life lessons and skills from cheerleading, but when asked about the future of her cheerleading career, she explained that all good things must come to an end. “I think I really just want to focus adjusting to college life and a grueling course load. But who knows, maybe I could end up cheering on the Orange during my four years at Syracuse.”
Despite her upcoming graduation marking the end of a success in the long run, the cheer captain will always be remembered for her accomplishments that will pave the way for better things to come.
