Recently, the Best Pals club held their annual Thanksgiving party on November 22, 2016. This feast took place at 6:00 P.M. in Great Neck North High School’s Old Lecture hall. During this exciting event, the Best Pals club and students got to connect with each other and had tons of fun; plus, the gathering was a great way to get into the holiday spirit. The delicious food at the Thanksgiving feast was well-prepared by the students of the ACE (Academic and Career Education) and Transitions Program, and the feast was filled with fun as there were many activities including games and dancing.
The advisor of the Best Pals Club is the special education teacher, Jennifer Nastri. “The Thanksgiving Feast is held annually by Best pals as a way to celebrate the holiday season and take time to remember what we are all thankful for. The students of the ACE and Transitions Program prepare all of the food for the event throughout the day. Our Best Pals members decorate the Old Lecture Hall to provide a warm, giving, and holiday mood. At the event, the meal is shared amongst all students, games (ie: Thanksgiving Bingo) are played, and music/dancing is provided by the voluntary DJ services of Best Pals and North High Alumni Josh Saraff. During the meal together, we all also go around at the table and everyone must share something that they are thankful for. This year, we encouraged students to bring in pictures and/or actual items to share with their peers,” explains Ms. Nastri.
The Best Pals Club offers many great opportunities for special education students to connect with other students, and make new friends! In addition to the Thanksgiving feast, there are many other social events held by club members and the advisor. The yearly Thanksgiving Feast is a time where the members of the Best Pals Club connect with each other. “The purpose of Best Pals is to form and maintain connections/friendships across the invisible divide between our students. The Thanksgiving Feast is so important to our Best Pals Family because it provides all students to relate to each other on a new level and it focuses on the relationships between friends and feeling grateful for each others’ company... and we love eating yummy food prepared by our ACE and Transitions students who work so hard on the dishes!” Ms. Nastri happily describes.
This year’s annual Thanksgiving Feast was a huge success just like the feast’s in the years past, and it is a remarkable way to establish even stronger bonds between the members of the Best Pals club.
