One of the biggest club at Great Neck North High School is the DECA club. DECA is a business oriented club advised Mr. Marchese and Mr. Rodriguez from the business department. Recently many members of DECA traveled upstate to participate in a statewide competition involving either a roleplay or written event. DECA members spent many months preparing for the competition. For instance, sophomore DECA member Chloe Noghreh participated in the written events category. She completed her cities page written manual about a month before the DECA states competition. After, she handed in her manual to be sent out to New York DECA, Then, she began preparing for her oral presentation. For the oral presentation, Chloe was allowed to bring visuals, such as a PowerPoint presentation or poster board. She created a trifold board that corresponded with her manual, created a script for the oral section, rehearsed her presentation multiple times. On the day before DECA, she packed her suitcase with business and casual attire.
Sophomore Jennifer Shamash, who was in the roleplay event, explained how she prepared for states. She practiced role playing and studied all the performance indicators and instructional areas for her event online. Although DECA involved a lot of preparation and hard work, it paid off at the end when members were able to compete with DECA members from all over New York, and have a lot of fun in Rochester, as well.
Many at Great Neck North High School scored in the top five in their event, heading to Nationals: Jennifer Shamash, Noah Hakim, Julia Hackman, Magny Nabavian, Julia Eshaghpour Leila Eshaghpour, Leila Shirin, Liraz Pourizian, Jolie Kavakeb, Niva Haber, Aaron Hakimi, Jonathan Sasson, Delilah Harounian, Sophia Eliassi, Michelle Nazar, Lauren Rahmanim, Sasha Hakimin, Jacquelien Slobin, Mari Maloul, and Audrey Yeganeh. All competitors at States had worked extremely hard and prepared excessively. Everyone did a great job and managed to balance hard work, while also having a fun time.
