Recently, Edward Mangano, a Nassau County Executive was arrested for 13 counts of bribery. A restaurateur-business man gave the Mangano family vacations, free meals, and furniture for money contracts. Mr. Mangano should resign from his position for the benefit of Nassau County.
When Mangano was inaugurated as the Nassau County Executive, one goal of his was to strengthen and rebuild Nassau County’s economy. To do this, Mangano planned to create jobs and cut unnecessary spending. This would strengthen the economy and as Mangano said, “put tax money back into resident pockets.” Unfortunately, Mangano broke his promises to be honest with the economy.
Mangano and his wife, Linda Mangano, were arrested and charged with trading government contracts for free luxuries. A 13-count indictment, released by federal prosecutors, alleged a bribery scheme stretching back to 2010, which was the beginning of Mangano's Nassau County Executive position. According to the indictment, Mangano ensured that any town and county contracts went to a “local businessman and restaurateur.”
This restaurateur-businessman’s name is Mr. Singh. Singh received two contracts to provide for bread for the Nassau COunty Correctional Center and another for emergency workers after Hurricane Sandy. Each contract was worth about half a million dollars each. In exchange for the money, Singh provided the Manganos with luxury. The Mangano family went on free vacations, ate free meals from Singh’s restaurant and refurbished their bedroom floor with hardwood flooring. Mangano received a $3,000 massage chair, a $3,000 office chair and a $7,000 Panerai Luminor watch. Who would want a corrupter official as their executive?
Mr. Mangano should resign from office, as he has proven to be an unfaithful official who is more interested in receiving a greater income and living a luxurious life, rather than helping Nassau County’s economy. His goal for Nassau County was to rebuild its economy and put money back into its residents pockets. However, it appears that Mangano has put the money into his own pockets. Americans are sick of insider abuse. Government officials are elected to benefit the people, not only themselves.
As the Nassau County Elective, it is Mangano’s duty to benefit the residents of the county. He is a corrupter, so to benefit the residents of Nassau County he should resign and realize that he messed up.
