Throughout the history of Great Neck North High School, there has probably never been such a controversial event.
“What the hell, I can't take an OTB? I’m not going.” Many students were outraged to find out that they were not longer allowed to take their sophomore girlfriend or out of school tap buddy to Junior Prom- or now officially called, Junior Event.
For those who attended, prom was a night to remember. It was a night to share laughs, smiles, dance, and enjoy good food. However, for others, prom was considered “stupid” or “pointless”. Girls without dates simply went with their friends; many even bought themselves corsages and posted dozens of group pictures. Discussing the night, some girls mentioned that they did not mind that some guys did not show up, it might have even made them more comfortable. Other girls like Ashley Youssefi who did not go with a date to prom said, “Everyone that came had fun. It was such a fun night with or without a date.” Numerous students missed the purpose of Junior Event. This night was intended to bring the junior class closer together, not to be focused after prom plans.
People that did not show up clearly do not care for a strong and united class next year. Thursday night was the night to get close to the friends everyone grew up with, and fortunately many people took advantage of that.
Those who tried to "boycott" the event, failed, because this event was a huge success. The purpose was to be a night to remember with the people you have spent four years of high school with. For those who missed it, they have one less high school memory to look back to.
