Popular holidays such as Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, and many more are widely observed. These holidays are fun and entertaining, but do not have meaningful impacts. It is a shame that the most popular holidays are not the ones that people can learn from or the ones that cause people to make a change. November 13 is World Kindness Day. This holiday is simply about being kind. It is too often that simple things in life such as remembering to be kind get lost in the hectic nature of one's day.
World Kindness Day is not exclusively important for ending bullying. One might argue that since bullying is not extremely eminent at Great Neck North High, the school does not need to improve on its kindness. However, there is certainly a disconnect amongst the students, and kindness brings people together. In order to unite the school as a whole, each student must make an effort to be kind.
People so often say that high school flies by too quickly. Students waste away the limited time they are granted to be high-schoolers. It is every student's job at North to make a meaningful impact while he or she can. Kindness is the most rewarding way to make an impact. The Psychology teacher, Ms. Talamo, says, "Being kind to other people makes us feel better and more positive. Also, it makes us feel that if we are kind to others, they will be kind to us, so we have hope." If someone's kindness makes another student's day a little better, that person is making the whole school a little better. Kindness is contagious, so if students are kind, they are bound to receive some kindness in return; thus making for some fond high school memories!
Overall, if everybody decided, just for one day, to do one kind deed for someone else, the world would be a better place. Kindness is the key to leaving a footprint anywhere in the world. No matter what one's ambitions and aspirations may be, everybody wants to leave some legacy behind. Make it a positive one.
