This past Thursday night, families and friends gathered at Steppingstone Park, to capture pictures of students attending the Senior Prom. This year’s Senior Prom was at Bourne Mansion. For anyone who attended the pre prom, it can undoubtedly be said that everyone looked amazing. Girls wore glamorous gowns, with makeup and hair done to perfection; boys wore fitting suits with matching ties.
Senior Prom is considerably a privilege, specifically because seniors can bring anyone whether from the high school or out of school. This is entirely different from Junior Event, where juniors are prevented from bringing dates from outside of school, and are encouraged to attend with friends. One senior was asked if having the option of bringing an out-of-school date gave her a stronger sense of freedom. This year, she chose not to bring a date and dressed up with her friends instead. She said, “If I brought a date, I’d feel the same, I couldn’t care less about a date”. This is the last chance to enjoy one more night with the entire grade, and for some it does not matter who they go with as long as the night is celebrated with great friends.
Additionally, seniors were not the only attendees of prom this year. Juniors, Amanda Sanders and Jessica Rothstein attended, dressed in extraordinary looking gowns. When asked what after prom plans consisted of, they both eagerly replied, “Going home to sleep!”. While this is not the typical response, both girls are juniors and have a great amount of tests to complete, along with continued stress. Regardless, both girls appeared to be extremely excited to attend such a special night, their smiles definitely expressing tremendous happiness.
This event was also considerably emotional for parents, who have just been hit with a shockwave that their seniors are growing up and heading to college. Once entering the school as tiny freshmen, and now leaving the school and preparing for college, where there is more independence. This thought may be scary for many seniors, but the seniors in the graduating class of 2017 will surely represent the community well wherever the next few years take them. Good luck seniors!
