The Israeli-Palestine conflict, which has been going on since 1948, started because the Israelis believe they are entitled to the land now known as Israel, while the Palestinians believe that they are entitled to the land they call Palestine. When the Jews declared the independence of the new State of Israel in 1948, thousands of Arabs fled the new nation of Israel and moved to neighboring Arab nations to live as refugees. Today, Muslims and Jews are not treated equally. For example, Muslims do not have the right to vote. The Arabs outnumber the Jews and they do not get the same amount of land. The Palestinian’s are not allowed to have their own military, which takes away from their security and they are also not allowed to have an airport. They do not have their own nation, which decreases their pride. The Arabs are treated as a members of religious minority, and most of their basic rights are restricted. They also have no political power.
The proposed solutions are the Two-State solution, where Israel and Palestine live side by side as two separate states. A Palestinian solution is a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The French proposed the idea of adding the Arab league to the peace talks. Israel's security advisor, Giora Eiland, proposed the idea of Israel talking to Jordan and Egypt on redrawing their borders and incorporating the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza Strip into those neighboring countries.
The best solution is the two-state solution. The two-state solution envisions an independent State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel. In order for the two-state solution to work Israel and Palestine must discuss feudal arrangement and details of common infrastructure, however many people in Israel oppose the idea of a two-state solution. A two-state solution is much better than a one-state solution since it is very unlikely that Israelis and Arabs can live peacefully together because of their century of direct conflict. The difficulties of creating two separate states are endless; however, it is the only realistic option for resolving the problem. One bad effect is that both nations would have to give up a lot to achieve this goal, such as historical regions.
